Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director of Finance, the Associate Director of Finance or designated supervisor or administrator, this position performs accounting, budgeting, and other fiscal analyses, in accordance with sound accounting practices and principles. Coordinates, implements, and assists with special projects as assigned.
Supervision ExercisedWhen assigned by the Finance Director, Associate Director, or designee, the Senior Accountant may supervise employees involved in accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, payroll, and other related accounting functions.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities- Performs accounting functions, including accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, and payroll as needed.
- Assists in preparing various quarterly and annual government reports.
- Reviews department and grant budgets, creates accounts, and monitors expenditures/revenues for compliance.
- Performs account reconciliations as necessary.
- Prepares and posts adjusting entries, as well as routine monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries.
- Assists with the preparation and submission of budget transfer/appropriation requests.
- Provides support in staff training and development in finance-related processes.
- Assists with the evaluation of financial reporting systems, including but not limited to accounting and collection procedures; makes recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial control functions.
- Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state regulations to achieve compliance.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Associate degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field with acceptable coursework in accounting/finance and one year of general accounting experience
- Considerable ability to organize and express thoughts and ideas through written and oral communication
- Considerable ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to exercise mature judgment, maintain confidentiality, and make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform work independently
- Ability to plan and maintain record-keeping systems
- Ability to work extra hours as needed
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and knowledge of fund accounting
- Three to five years of related experience
- Familiarity with MUNIS software
- Excel experience to include basic formulas, pivot tables, and V-Lookup
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
12-Month Full-Time (on-site)
37.5 hours/week
Pay rate and benefits per bargaining unit agreement
