Finance Director

Position Overview

The City of Bowie is seeking a qualified individual for the Finance Director position. The position is under the direction of the City Manager and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the City's financial accounting and general ledger reporting.

• Ensure compliance with the City's financial policies and procedures.
• Prepare timely month‑end and year‑end closing processes of financial information.
• Coordinate and develop quarterly and annual financial reports in compliance with governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting requirements.
• Coordinate the annual audit and prepare the City's operating budget.
• Prepare and review journal entries, and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
• Perform or assist with payroll and accounts payable transactions.
• Oversee utility billing and accounts receivables.
• Work with other city departments and department heads and coordinate with the City Manager on each department's financial performance.
• Supervise the finance department's staff of six trained employees.

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or business administration is preferred.
• Governmental accounting experience is required.
• CPA designation is a big plus.
• Minimum of 5 years' governmental accounting experience is required.
• Credential as a certified government finance officer is a big plus.
• Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities will be considered.

Salary range: $65,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on education and experience. The position offers a compressed work schedule of Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with Fridays off. This position is on site only and not remote.
