Assistant Area Engineer - (2502469)

TxDOT is looking for an Assistant Area Engineer in the Junction Area Office
. This position will help oversee construction and maintenance activities across 8 of the San Angelo District's 15 counties. The Assistant Area Engineer will support the Area Engineer and contribute to shaping the State's transportation system. The San Angelo District has a robust project portfolio, including preventative maintenance, rehabilitation, bridge replacements, Super 2 passing lanes, and four-lane divided/freeway conversions. Responsibilities

Assists in directing area office operations and supervising employees involved in construction, design, maintenance, survey, laboratory activities, and office operations. Reports to the Area Engineer, who has full authority for approval of all work. Responsible for operations of the area office in the absence of the Area Engineer. Requires contact with government officials and private entities. Establishes own work plan and priorities to meet objectives.

Issues are usually handled at the occurrence without referring to the supervisor.

  • Assist Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment for each project; respond to emergency situations/conditions to support office activities
  • Conduct pre-construction, Employee Forum and safety meetings
  • Inspect roads, monitor maintenance activities, and coordinate scheduling of maintenance with construction projects
  • Keep abreast of current transportation design innovations, modifications, laws, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Monitor traffic control plans
  • Plan and schedule construction personnel and provide on-the-job training
  • Prepare and/or recommend field changes and supplemental agreements
  • Prepare and/or review monthly and final estimates and reports
  • Resolve public complaints
  • Review plans prepared by area office personnel; check designs, specifications and estimates
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Education
:
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science (bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS)

Experience
: 4 years transportation engineering (full-time or prorated part-time). Related graduate-level education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis

Licenses and Certifications
:

  • Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer

Note:

Professionals licensed in another U.S. state must meet Texas license requirements within six months of hire and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.
