Role Synopsis
Critical position supports the operation and maintenance of bpx energy’s Permian power system, which provides electrical service to essential midstream facilities and upstream well pads. As a technician you will operate and maintain three 200
MVA substations, one 140
MVA substation, one 138kV breaker station, three 21.6kV switching/breaker stations, six miles of 138kV transmission line, 300 miles of medium voltage power distribution, all providing power to facility and field operations.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain high voltage electrical distribution systems using an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery.
- Perform switching, isolating, and grounding of high/medium/low voltage systems.
- Execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities as directed by the work management system (SAP), including initiating notifications, completing work orders, and supporting the planning and scheduling of maintenance tasks.
- Respond to power outages and equipment breakdowns; participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
- Provide oversight of contractor work to ensure compliance with bpx and regulatory standards.
- Support testing and commissioning of substations and switching stations.
- Collaborate with engineering to evaluate maintenance program performance and pursue predictive analytics.
- Ensure safe work practices in accordance with OSHA and NFPA 70E standards.
- Operate manlifts and other equipment safely and effectively.
- Comply with bpx’s Code of Conduct and model company values and behaviors.
- Seek knowledge in and encourage the use of new technology to further optimize facilities’ availability and reliability.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in oil & gas or a related industry.
- Proven experience in high voltage systems, substations, or lineman work.
- Familiarity with work management systems (SAP, Maximo, or similar).
- Strong understanding of electrical safety protocols and standards.
- Proficiency in mechanical systems, instrumentation, and automation.
- Journeyman lineman or substation electrician certification.
- Completion of a lineman or substation apprenticeship program.
- Associate’s degree in electrical technology or related field.
- Experience supporting large electric-driven compressors, dehydration units, heater treaters, LACT skids, and water injection systems.
How much do we pay (Base)? $111,000 - $131,000
