Job Description
Jarvis Christian University is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Postsecondary Student Advisor to join our advising team. This position plays a vital role in supporting undergraduate students as they navigate academic requirements, personal development, and career planning. The advisor will serve as a mentor, resource, and advocate for students, ensuring they have the tools and guidance needed to succeed.
Key Responsibilities- Academic advising: Provide individualized and group advising sessions to help students understand degree requirements, course selection, and academic policies.
- Student support: Assist students in overcoming academic and personal challenges by connecting them with campus resources.
- Career readiness: Offer guidance on internships, graduate school preparation, and career pathways.
- Program development: Collaborate with faculty and staff to design workshops, orientation sessions, and student success initiatives.
- Progress monitoring: Track student progress toward graduation and maintain accurate advising records.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field preferred. - Experience: Prior experience in academic advising, student affairs, or secondary education.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with university systems, student development theory, and academic policies.
