Position Overview

Guthrie Common School District is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and student-focused Agriculture Teacher to lead and grow our Agricultural Education program. This role is ideal for an educator passionate about hands-on learning, FFA leadership, and preparing students for careers in agriculture. The teacher will oversee the comprehensive Ag program with a primary focus on ag mechanics, leadership competitions (including FFA events), while also providing strong support for students engaged in animal projects (such as livestock showing, breeding, and related SAE opportunities, this is not considered a high travel position).

Key Responsibilities

* Develop and deliver a high-quality agricultural science curriculum, emphasizing agricultural mechanics (including shop skills, welding, small engines, construction, and equipment maintenance).

* Coach and advise the FFA chapter, preparing students for leadership roles, career development events (CDEs), leadership conferences, and competitive teams.

* Guide and support students in animal science projects, including livestock management, record-keeping, show preparation, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs.

* Integrate classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, and FFA/leadership activities to meet Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for agricultural education.

* Manage the agricultural facilities, including shop/lab spaces, greenhouse (if applicable), and animal project areas.

* Collaborate with administration, parents, community partners, and local agricultural businesses to enhance program opportunities.

* Sponsor FFA activities, including travel to contests, camps, and state/national events.

* Maintain accurate records for student progress, FFA membership, fundraising, and program compliance.

* Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education, Agriculture, or related field (Master's preferred but not required).

* Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate Agricultural Science endorsement (or eligibility to obtain one).

* Strong knowledge of ag mechanics, animal science, and FFA/leadership development.

* Experience advising FFA chapters and coaching competitive teams preferred.

* Passion for rural education, student mentorship, and hands-on agricultural learning.

* Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills and CCMR knowledge

* Ability to work collaboratively in a small, close-knit school community.
