Job Description
Purpose and Scope
The Advisor I meets with students in assigned discipline on a regular basis to provide advising, track academic progress, and support success, completion, and retention. The role advises on course selection for credit programs, refers to non‑credit certificate programs, and collaborates with department personnel to identify early intervention needs and develop academic support programming.
Essential Job Functions
- Advises students in assigned department/discipline and meets with them regularly to track academic progress and success.
- Assists students with reviewing their Academic Advising Report and creating their My Educational Plan (MEP).
- Provides guidance on course selection, TSI regulations, prerequisites, co‑requisites, and career advising; makes referrals to non‑credit certificate programs.
- Acquires and processes data regarding students in assigned discipline to support job functions.
- Collaborates with department and related personnel to identify early intervention needs.
- Refers students to counselors, college resources, and outside organizations when necessary.
- Assists Directors/Managers in planning and developing successful academic support programming and events.
- Develops department/position objectives and strategies.
- Maintains accurate documentation of meetings and student progress.
- Monitors processes, materials, and surroundings to ensure accuracy and compliance with all relevant rules, regulations, and policies.
- Performs other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities
The work is sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, and driving. No special physical demands are required.
Work Schedule and Conditions
- Use of a PC workstation on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed.
- Work is performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience assisting students with unique barriers.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
Salary
Hourly Pay Rate: $21.82
