Early Learning Center – Infant/Toddler Teacher Substitute
Primary Purpose
Under the direction of the Center Director, the teacher develops and implements appropriate classroom activities in compliance with center standards and regulatory requirements. The classroom environment supports learning, personal growth, and school readiness for each child through collaboration with families and colleagues.
Education/Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required; associate’s degree in early childhood or CDA equivalent preferred.
Requirements
- Two or more years of experience in a related setting; prior child‑care experience preferred.
- Experience and education in early childhood education required.
- Minimum age 18 years.
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Early childhood education and child development fundamentals.
- Curriculum design for infants and toddlers.
- Effective behavior management and student motivation strategies.
- Parent education techniques, health and safety practices.
Experience
Preferably six months in an early‑childhood classroom with the ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children, including at‑risk, special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse populations.
Major Responsibilities and Duties- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, clean, nurturing, and inviting learning environment for children.
- Support the social, intellectual, and emotional development of children.
- Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants and toddlers.
- Build basic caregiving routines in collaboration with teacher and child.
- Supervise children both indoors and outdoors at all times.
- Plan and implement learning experiences that reflect mandated curriculum, parental and cultural influences, and promote development across all domains.
- Complete developmentally appropriate assessments and screenings as required.
- Develop individualized classroom activities based on parent input, observations, and assessments.
- Promote parent involvement and reinforce the role of parents as primary caregivers.
- Coordinate with teacher assistants and other staff to ensure cohesive instruction.
- Incorporate cultural, linguistic, and familial values into program and lesson plans.
- Assist families with transitions between developmental stages.
- Maintain a cooperative attitude with all staff, volunteers, parents, and specialists.
- Implement IEPs and inclusion plans for children with special needs.
- Conduct direct observations and record data for each child.
- Ensure routine hygiene practices are carried out consistently.
- Maintain professionalism and teamwork to promote a positive learning environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Good manual dexterity; ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Reach overhead and above shoulders; ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch frequently.
- Hearing and speaking ability required for communication in a noisy environment.
- Computer keyboard proficiency for data entry.
- Read and monitor materials and child activities effectively.
- Walk for extended periods; lift and carry up to 40 lbs as needed.
