Primary Purpose

Assist the teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Completed at least two years of higher education, or an associate’s (or higher) degree
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics readiness as assessed by a formal state or local academic assessment

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Effective communication

Experience: Some experience working with children

Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Support
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Manage inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Set up audio‑visual equipment.
  • Maintain a folder for each student as required.
  • Keep attendance records.
  • Type and duplicate materials.
Student Support
  • Distribute books and supplies to students.
  • Deliver reports and materials to the office or other personnel.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, working with individual students or small groups.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Inform teacher of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Recognize individual differences among students.
Other Duties
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Attend faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
