Responsibilities
  • Assist in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom.
  • Implement and coordinate all Head Start or Early Head Start functions.
  • Identify, report, and provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
  • Provide educational experiences that promote self‑image and self‑worth.
  • Develop language arts and skills for all children and integrate multicultural content.
  • Ensure each child receives individual attention and maintain a safe classroom, playground, restrooms, and equipment.
  • Make best use of volunteer help and assist with child assessments, screenings, field trips, and school functions.
  • Assist with home‑style meal service and report illness or accidents to the Center Coordinator.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and all in‑service trainings and maintain mandated training hours and documentation.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness, demonstrate good judgment and self‑control, and comply with CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Assist in staff/child ratio, discipline, safety, and other duties assigned by the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years related experience in a preschool classroom setting (preferred).
  • Ability to serve and communicate effectively with children and families with limited English proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
  • Computer literate and able to operate office machinery.
  • Ability to work independently without extensive supervision and as a team player.
  • Diplomacy, tact, confidentiality, and citizen of the U.S. with work eligibility.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and health examination.
  • Clear criminal background check, driving history check, and background check.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds, stand, sit on the floor, bend, squat, kneel, and lift children.
