Job Description

Needed for the 2025‑2026 school year at Covington ISD in Covington, Texas, a full‑time secondary agricultural sciences teacher. Must be fully‑certified to teach in Texas or be eligible for hire through an alternative certification program. Must have a current Bus Driver Certification and CDL or be willing to obtain as soon as possible. This is a contract position on an 11‑month basis.

Salaries are determined by a board‑adopted 31‑step pay scale with an additional FFA Sponsor stipend of $5,000 and a school cell phone is provided. Primary Purpose

Direct and manage the agricultural science program for the assigned campus. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, and enable them to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Demonstrated competency in agricultural science.
  • CPR & First Aid Certificate.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of agricultural science and technology.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Ability to supervise agricultural field experiences.
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience

One year student teaching or approved internship.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), including assisting students in selecting and managing projects and supervising the school farm.
  • Serve as advisor to the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state levels.
  • Assist with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs relating to agricultural science and technology.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students, and present subject matter in accordance with Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plan guidelines.
  • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
