About the Job

Rail 1, LLC is looking for labor hands on an asphalt crew for railroad crossings. To perform physically demanding tasks to install, repair, and maintain the roadway where it intersects with train tracks. This job requires significant attention to safety, as it involves working around heavy machinery and active rail line.

Responsibilities:

• Site Preparation: Assists in removing the old crossing surface, asphalt, and railroad track panels. They help excavate and grade the underlying base material.
• Asphalt Application: Uses rakes, shovels, and other hand tools to spread and smooth hot mix asphalt.
• Compaction: Operates plate compactors, vibratory tamps, and other equipment to ensure the asphalt is properly compacted, especially in tight areas.
• Material Handling: Assists in loading and unloading materials and equipment from trucks, including asphalt, ballast, and old debris.
• Cleanup: Cleans the job site and disposes of old gravel, asphalt, and other materials after the project is complete.

Requirements and qualifications:

• Physical Strength and Stamina: The role demands continuous physical labor, including bending, stretching, lifting up to 50-75 pounds, and working with tools for extended periods.
• Safety Orientation: Workers must have a strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow strict protocols, especially when working around train tracks.
• Flexibility: The work often requires a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and occasional travel to different job sites.
• Teamwork: Asphalt laborers work as part of a crew, so the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively is crucial.
• Education: A high school diploma or GED is often preferred but not always required, as on-the-job training is common.
• Driver's License: A valid driver's license is frequently required by employers.
