Safety and Environmental Specialist Summary

The Safety and Environment Specialist is responsible for driving Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and process improvements across assigned workshops by identifying hazards and process failures, implementing corrective action, and creating a culture of accountability for the standard. Additional responsibilities include; developing processes that promote safe behavior, risk recognition and abatement, leading incident investigations, championing safety training efforts, and ensuring compliance to applicable regulations and industry best practices.

They will also provide general administrative support for Human Resources functions.

The right candidate will
  • Transform an improving safety program to a world class program.
  • Champion overall safety responsibilities for the Sinton workshop.
  • Promote safety as a continuous improvement program and ensure employees are constantly committed to this process.
  • Maintain a strong shop floor/site presence, engage employees, promote improvement opportunities and forge relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Utilize advanced analytics to drive decision making and communicate overall workshop safety performance.
  • Facilitate, lead and implement 5S and lean improvement projects.
  • Conduct safety leadership training for managers, supervisors and specialists on a biweekly, monthly and annual basis.
  • Manage incident investigations, worker’s compensation claims, evaluate trends and collaborate with process owners, engineers and/or physicians to institute tangible corrective actions.
  • Conduct EHS compliance audits to verify continued compliance with company and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify and utilize technology products to aid in injury reduction and provide a safe work environment.
  • Assist with capex projects to ensure proper ROIs, contractors meet safety standards, and equipment/projects do not create unintended consequences.
  • Participate in project management to ensure new equipment, layouts and other improvements meet safety and 5S standards.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for systems, processes and tools that may benefit the company.
  • Coordinate a structured new hire orientation and onboarding programs that integrate safety protocols and ensure all new employees are educated on job-specific safety equipment and procedures.
  • Provide HR administrative support, including recruiting, coordinating onsite interviews, assistance with timecards and payroll, onboarding of new employees, escalating incidents to appropriate HR support, and offboarding employees.
  • Oversee site level compliance for inspections on equipment and manage third party inspection requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, and one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience highly desired
  • Microsoft Office Suite/Proficient in Excel/PPT
  • 1or more years of overall professional experience in safety, safety management, and/or related discipline
  • Experience with development, implementation. and management of safety systems across multiple locations
  • Knowledge of federal/state/ local safety regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and exercise positive interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in lean process improvements and
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Potential travel up to 5%
