Primary Purpose

Provide support and training to campus users of the student information system (SIS) to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency across all campuses. The PEIMS Specialist partners with the PEIMS Coordinator and campus data staff to coordinate, collect, validate, and report Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) and Texas Student Data System (TSDS) information in accordance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards and deadlines.

Qualifications

Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • College degree preferred
Experience
  • 2–5 years working in public education
  • 2–5 years of experience using Skyward SIS or comparable student information system
  • 2–5 years of experience with student enrollment processes and procedures
  • 2 years of experience collecting and entering attendance/PEIMS data
  • 3–5 years of experience in a school district PEIMS or data reporting role, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Working knowledge of TEA PEIMS Data Standards, Student Attendance Accounting Handbook, TEC Chapter 37, and TSDS/Ed-Fi requirements
  • Ability to run edits, verification checks, and audit data for accuracy and timeliness
  • Proficient in data management, spreadsheets, and word processing software
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain accurate, auditable records
  • Strong organizational, communication, training, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties Data Management and Reporting
  • Coordinate and assist campus staff in the collection, integration, and formatting of PEIMS data for district submissions.
  • Run edit reports and verification checks to ensure data accuracy; distribute reports for analysis, verification, and correction.
  • Partner with the PEIMS Coordinator to conduct site audits for data accuracy and process compliance.
  • Manage student enrollments (NSOE); communicate with campuses, principals, parents, and program administrators to balance campus sizes.
  • Coordinate with district departments and technology staff to verify and update address master data annually.
  • Support Pre‑K application data processing and monitor availability for enrollment.
  • Serve as district liaison for enrollment and transfer questions; assist with TREx and Leaver coding.
  • Ensure district readiness for all state reporting cycles (Fall, Mid‑Year, Summer, Extended Year); submit data in compliance with TEA timelines.
Training and Technical Support
  • Partner with the PEIMS Coordinator to create and maintain training and reference materials for campus staff.
  • Train new campus PEIMS and Attendance Specialists through monthly meetings and annual summer workshops.
  • Develop and deliver training on Skyward processes, data entry/withdrawal, attendance coding, special program coding, and membership reconciliation.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for campus and department users related to Skyward and data reporting issues.
  • Attend and disseminate updates from PEIMS‑related trainings (Region 13, TSUG, TASBO, TEA).
  • Maintain documentation of training materials, job aids, and process updates.
Collaboration and Compliance
  • Partner with district departments (Business Services, HR, Technology), campuses, regional service centers, and TEA to resolve data quality issues and ensure audit readiness.
  • Monitor state and local policy changes affecting PEIMS and TSDS reporting requirements.
  • Assist with Public Information Act requests related to student data.
Other Duties
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Compile and maintain all required records, reports, and manuals.
  • Travel to and support campuses in the event of staff absences or special projects.
