Mercy Ships is seeking a Senior Accountant who is responsible for serving as a team leader in the finance department and ensuring the department creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization.

• Analyzes accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the department.
• Works with the Controller and Assistant Controller on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
• Reviews records of accounts to ensure accuracy.
• Develops systems for the maintenance of financial records, making use of current technologies.
• Assists in the creation and maintenance of relevant accounting policies, procedures and instructions.
• Other duties as assigned.

The senior accountant may or may not have direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for staff accountants and accounting clerks.

• Supportive of Mercy Ships mission, vision, and committed to its core values.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
• Demonstrates knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
• Strong MS Office with proficiency in Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with all levels throughout the organization globally.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Understand and apply servant leadership, work collaboratively with integrity and demonstrate accountability.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent number of years of experience plus five years of progressive accounting experience.
• Non-Profit and international accounting experience a plus.
• Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
