POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs the primary function of a professional nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care provided to patients. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff and/or ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. This position will, during his/her shift operate without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor.

FED Registered Nurses are responsible for, but not limited to Ventilator Management, Lab Draws including ABGs, placing phone calls and receiving/answering phone calls, paging on call resources, Responding/Activating Code Blue and Housekeeping as needed. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned. Position does work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on an on‑call/call‑back status.

• RN licensure in the State of Texas (including temporary RN license while awaiting permanent license).
• Availability to work one full weekend per month.
• Availability to work one full holiday recognized by STHS (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas).
• Willingness to be cross‑trained to other unit areas.
• Commitment to and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct via policy compliance, required training, and immediate reporting of suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer.
• Must be familiar with basic nursing performance standards as outlined in the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
• Must pass the Medication Assessment within 3 months of joining the department with a score of 90 % or greater.

• Registered Nurse licensed in Texas, or part of a compact state license, or holding a valid temporary RN license in Texas while awaiting the permanent license.
• Effective January 6, 2012, must possess an Associate‑Degree, Baccalaureate Degree or Diploma from a School of Nursing or University; new graduate RNs with a permit to practice in Texas may provide program completion documentation.

• XBCLS/CPR – current upon hire and thereafter.
• XACLS – required for FED RN. RNs with ≤ 1 year experience must obtain within 12 months of hire; those with > 1 year experience within 6 months. If hired with current certification, keep it current at all times.
• XPALS – required for FED RN. Same time requirements as XACLS.
• XNRP – required for FED RN. Same time requirements as XACLS.
• XTNCC (TNCC) – required for FED RN. Same time requirements as XACLS.
• XCPI – required for FED RN. Same time requirements as XACLS.
