Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of this role is to assist in administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the supervision of the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services, in accordance with established nursing standards, policies, procedures, and state requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow facility policies on medication administration.
- Note and report medication errors.
- Participate in programs to identify and prevent medication errors.
- Administer medications within your licensure/certification scope.
- Complete necessary documentation and reports.
- Maintain professional relationships with healthcare team members.
- Report complaints or grievances from residents.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections.
- Protect resident information and report any violations.
Committee and Drug Administration Functions:
- Participate in quality assurance and medication-related committees.
- Attend care plan meetings.
- Prepare, administer, and document medications safely.
- Verify medication orders and resident identity.
- Follow labeling, storage, and disposal policies.
- Monitor and document resident vital signs and reactions.
Personnel and Development:
- Report incidents of fraud or misconduct.
- Ensure computer security protocols are followed.
- Assist in resident care as directed.
- Participate in ongoing education and training programs.
Safety, Sanitation, and Resident Rights:
- Use protective equipment and follow safety protocols.
- Report hazards and exposures.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect resident rights.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Licensed Certified Medication Aide with approved training and certification.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Knowledge of medication administration and resident care.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
- Ability to move, lift, and carry at least 25 pounds.
- Good vision, hearing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under stress and in emergency situations.
