Job Scope
Under the scope of the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP), the VSPOC will provide outreach and education services to Veterans and their families, with an emphasis on screening for suicide risk as well as suicide prevention. This position will be responsible for providing the veteran, their families and the community with information on resources related to suicide warning sign recognition, suicide prevention and education of protective factors (i.e. lethal means reduction).
This position will ensure the community is aware of the SSG Fox SPGP and the East Texas Veterans Resource Center. Administer the activities of the grant according to the VA's SSG Fox SPGP guidelines. The VSPOC will participate in community Veteran events, such as hosting outreach, education and training workshops. Provide the Veteran and their family with baseline mental health screenings, crisis referral (when applicable), temporary income support, case management, lethal means safety devices and other suicide prevention services.
The VSPOC is responsible for maintaining secure, confidential files consistent with the standards of the funder and the organization - Community Healthcore.
- Veteran peer must successfully complete Mental Health Peer Specialist training with an authorized training entity, and upon completion apply and provide all necessary forms to the certifying entity, Texas Certification Board.
- Must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Current valid driver's license in state of residence with acceptable driving record.
- Veteran status required.
- Must have working knowledge of military culture as well as how to access the VA system and community resources.
- Position requires performing lifesaving activities such as CPR and SAMA techniques.
