Raytheon is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) team. NASAMS is a cutting-edge air defense system that protects critical assets and population centers from aerial threats by integrating advanced radar, command and control, and missile systems. As a senior technical leader, you will oversee and drive the technical execution of software programs across the NASAMS system effectivity chain:
Detect, Decide, Engage, and Destroy. In this highly visible role, you will spearhead the development of mission-critical software, coordinate cross-functional teams, and serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for software architecture and development. As a mentor to engineers at all levels, you will help foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence. This position is based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, where you’ll work in an Agile and Dev Sec Ops  environment to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet evolving customer needs.

What

You Will Do
  • Lead the technical execution of software development programs, ensuring successful delivery of solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinate and guide the activities of multiple engineers across teams, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Design, architect, and implement critical software capabilities in an active Agile environment.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in software architecture, development, testing, and integration.
  • Proactively identify and address technical and programmatic risks, making data-driven decisions to ensure successful execution.
  • Oversee and participate in debugging, troubleshooting, and optimizing software to meet performance and reliability goals.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement in team processes, tools, and technical approaches, driving innovation and efficiency.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, summaries, and reports to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Coach, mentor, and delegate work to lower-level professionals, contributing to their professional development and technical growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, test engineers, and program leadership, to deliver integrated solutions for large, complex systems.

Key Contributions to NASAMS
  • Detect:
    Develop solutions for target acquisition, integrated IFF, and tracking updates.
  • Decide:
    Implement Single Integrated Air Picture, threat evaluation, launcher assignment, and multi-missile handling.
  • Engage:
    Create algorithms for azimuth slew, targeting data transfer, missile firing, and mission abort.
  • Destroy:
    Support motor ignition, inertial guidance, seeker search, target lock-on, and terminal guidance.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in programming languages (e.g., C++, Java).
  • Experience with Agile and Dev Sec Ops  methodologies and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Jenkins).
  • Experience leading teams and resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required…
