Principal System Administrators, based in Tewsbury, MA collaborate with a motivated team to support fast‑paced, critical programs with classified information system capabilities. Success in this role means you will meet regularly with program stakeholders to identify and prioritize client servers and data to be backed up. Execute, monitor, and track backups, as well as update and review the backup agreement with the designated stakeholders monthly.
You will be the designated subject‑matter‑expert (SME) in the backup applications (Net Backup, Comm Vault, & Veeam) as well as the system’s infrastructure SME for tape library, Storage, interconnects, and backup servers within the Mission areas of the Tewsbury, MA facility related to Storage and Data Protection systems in Classified areas.

- Champion the Storage & Data Protection standard and establish yourself as the backup software subject matter expert.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize client servers and their data to be backed up.
- Have or develop a strong background in Net App systems, backup software (Net Backup, Comm Vault, & Veeam) and Quantum tape library systems.
- Monitor and track client and data backups. Troubleshoot, resolve, and restart failed backups ensuring that they have been completed successfully.
- Review and update the backup agreement and backup health checklist with the designated stakeholders monthly.
- Cycle and track tape inventories.
- Respond to online service requests from users.
- Ensure server and application compliance with security and performance requirements (DFARS, RMF, NIST Cybersecurity Framework).
- Communicate and work with associated organizations including the Solution Design & integration team (SDI), mission area Digital Program Leads (DPLs), end‑users, Network Engineering, hardware & software vendors.
- Work with architectural and end‑user teams to gather storage requirements for capacity, performance, space & power availability.
- Install and upgrade the system’s hardware and software.
- Develop, revise, and maintain technical and operational documentation (including procedures) to continually improve our computing environments.
- Maintain and grow your technical competence in multiple areas such as Storage networking, Windows, Linux, virtualization, User Authentication, DNS, NFS, system imaging/build automation.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Assist in developing the overall performance and capability of your technical team through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Potential for domestic or international travel.
- Systems are operational 24x7 and occasionally require work effort beyond standard work hours.

- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience or a master’s degree and minimum of 3 years.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. Must have a interim clearance to set a start date.
- Experience administering and supporting enterprise storage and data protection systems such as Veeam, Net Backup, Commvault, Net App (ONTAP), IBM, and Dell solutions.
