HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state supported living centers. The psychiatric hospitals are a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. Essential

Job Functions
  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
  • Safely operates a Class C vehicle, a single rear‑axle vehicle and other state vehicles while obeying all state/federal/local traffic laws.
  • Delivers/picks up food to/from the warehouse/kitchens and performs operator vehicle preventative maintenance checks (fluid levels, safety checks, brake air lines, etc.).
  • Processes paperwork to fulfill departmental needs and requests, maintaining mileage logs and detailed maintenance checklists.
  • Delivers cargo in a safe and timely manner, properly loading, tying down, and unloading cargo, ensuring vehicle cargo capacity is not exceeded.
  • Conducts vehicle operation and safety training for new driving staff, including use of lift gates and proper cargo securing methods.
  • Maintains delivery vehicles at optimal condition, cleaning and sanitizing interiors, performing pressure washes and ensuring tie‑downs are in good condition.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response or COOP activation.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of safe motor vehicle operations and preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safe cargo loading/unloading, storage, and securing methods.
  • Knowledge of operations/instruction manuals and safety materials.
  • Knowledge of all Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) driving rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of infection control policies.
  • Knowledge of laundering techniques and procedures.
  • Skills and safety in operating a single vehicle.
  • Verbal and written communication skills with internal customers and external vendors.
  • Good physical stamina, hand‑to‑eye coordination, and reflexes.
  • Ability to use lift gates, pallet jacks, forklifts, or other loading/unloading equipment.
