Would you thrive in an environment where you learn and grow personally and professionally while helping make a positive impact on people’s lives? If you appreciate working with dependable, trustworthy, hard‑working colleagues who value teamwork, this is the place for you.
HSCS is dedicated to building an atmosphere where employees feel valued and supported while providing specialized care for Texans in need. HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state‑supported living centers, all accredited by The Joint Commission.
The Psychiatric Nursing Assistant II (PNA II) performs moderately complex rehabilitative patient‑care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient setting. Responsibilities include providing emergency, health, and personal care services; interacting with patients therapeutically; observing, reporting, and documenting patient conditions and behaviors in an electronic record; and participating in individualized and unit‑based programming.
The PNA II maintains direct and ongoing therapeutic interactions to promote living and social skills, encouraging progress toward a less restrictive environment. As an integral member of the recovery team, the PNA II supplies verbal and supportive documentation concerning individual patient behaviors, progress toward individualized goals, and participates in shift reports and recovery team meetings.
Additional duties may include aiding the PNA Is, providing guidance, and performing delegated nursing duties within competency limits. The role has no financial responsibility but is accountable for assigned property. Duties, location, and shift patterns may change as directed by administration. Exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials may occur, and the employee will have full access to a limited set of records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Other duties are assigned as needed to ensure efficient operation of the patient‑care unit, including supporting disaster response or continuity of operations (COOP) activations, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
This position may be eligible for additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and weekends.
Essential Job FunctionsAttend work regularly and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.

Assist with activities of daily living—hygiene, eating—to promote independence and self‑care, and accompany patients to appointments as required.
Communicate effectively with other team members to promote a positive workplace.
