Description

• The Shift Manager is responsible for the on-time execution of the production schedule by the shop floor, as well as reporting performance and operational issues into the daily Tier meetings.

  • Perform a daily review of the past 24 hours at the beginning of their day.
  • Ensure that daily performance KPI’s are updated. Production Meeting updates and performance KPI’s are critical for reporting the shift’s performance daily.
  • Lead the daily Production meeting for Safety, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance representation.
  • Partner with the maintenance department to coordinate planned maintenance activities. The Shift Manager will ensure the equipment is prepared prior to maintenance intervention as defined in the daily production meeting.
  • Create the daily plan based on the output of the daily review, integration, and daily schedule meetings. This allows the Shift Manager and Production Manager to manage the key daily activities that need to be completed.
  • Support problem solving activities related to safety, quality, and performance on the shop floor.
  • When required, escalates problems to the Production Manager.
  • Ensures that teams are completing routine assessments on team effectiveness. The Shift Manager will act as a coach for the respective production employees in their area.
  • Responsible for administering disciplinary action.
  • Accountable for safety, quality, and productivity KPI’s in their area. The Shift Manager and Maintenance leadership will partner to share joint accountability for improving and sustaining autonomous and preventative maintenance by the operators.
  • Provides support for all continuous improvement efforts which include implementation of new standards, procedures, and improvements.
  • Internally interacts with General Labor, Operators, and Support Personnel (i.e., Operations, Production Control, RD&E, Training, Human Resources, Accounting/Finance, Quality, etc.)
  • Has full managerial responsibility for the assigned shift. Assigns work to Lead Operator, operators, and General labor, provides coaching and training, sets goals, is accountable for performance evaluation, plans staff development, and makes and approves people management decisions either alone or in collaboration with management and HR (including recruitment, promotions, and terminations).
  • Follows all Terre Haute site safety rules.
Quality
  • Inspects raw material for contamination and ensures quality before feeding into co-extruder.
  • Ensures quality and productivity standards are met.
  • Maintains work area to OLA/5S standards.
  • Focuses on continuous improvement and problem solving.
Safety
  • Follows all Terre Haute Site Safety rules.
  • Executes log out tag out procedures as necessary.
  • Maintains work area to 5S (OLA) standards.
  • Completes all assigned safety training – initial and ongoing.
  • Wears proper PPE including safety shoes, safety glasses, ear protection, and any other designated PPE for individual tasks indicated in work instructions.

Physical Demands

This position requires frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. The position requires frequent lifting, walks and stands for long periods of time, and performs strenuous physical labor under extreme temperatures. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
