The Performance Coach - Tennis is responsible for owning and advancing the tennis-specific human performance strategy at Farm & Forge Club. This role designs, implements, and oversees physical preparation and performance programming that enhances athletic development, durability, and on-court performance across all tennis populations. This position serves as the senior tennis human performance leader and works in close partnership with the facility’s Human Performance department, tennis coaches, physical therapists, and Certified Athletic Trainers to ensure a fully integrated, aligned approach to training, injury prevention, and return-to-play.
Over time, this role will build, mentor, and manage a team of tennis-focused human performance coaches. This is not a general strength coach role. This position requires deep expertise in tennis as a sport, strong leadership capability, and the ability to scale programming and standards across a growing performance department.
Performance Programming
- Own the tennis-specific human performance philosophy, standards, and long-term athlete development model in alignment with the broader human performance team strategy.
- Design and deliver tennis-specific strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, and mobility programs across youth, junior, and adult populations.
- Align physical preparation plans with tennis training phases, competition schedules, and athlete development stages.
- Emphasize movement quality, rotational power, deceleration, change of direction, and repeat sprint ability specific to tennis.
- Collaborate daily with tennis coaches to align physical training with technical and tactical goals.
- Support on-court warm-ups, movement prep, and performance integration where appropriate.
- Adjust training loads based on practice intensity, match volume, and tournament schedules.
Injury Prevention & Athlete Health
- Work closely with the Certified Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapists to proactively reduce injury risk, particularly for shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and lower back.
- Support rehab-to-performance and return-to-play progressions in coordination with medical professionals.
- Monitor athlete readiness, fatigue, and recovery using both objective and subjective inputs.
- Ensure training is conducted in a safe, motivating, and structured environment.
- Monitor equipment usage, enforce facility standards, and implement appropriate warm-up and cool-down routines.
- Uphold best practices for athlete health, including monitoring load management and recognizing signs of over training or injury.
Assessment & Monitoring
- Conduct physical assessments relevant to tennis performance including movement screening, strength profiling, speed and power metrics.
- Track athlete progress and communicate insights clearly to coaches, medical staff, and leadership.
- Use data to inform programming decisions and individualization.
- Educate athletes on recovery, sleep, nutrition fundamentals, and training intent.
- Build trust and accountability with athletes while reinforcing Farm & Forge standards of professionalism and care.
- Contribute to a positive, high-performance culture across the club.
Collaboration & Communication
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary meetings with tennis, human performance, PT, and athletic training staff.
- Maintain clear documentation and communication around training plans, modifications, and athlete status.
- Partner with leadership to evolve and scale the performance model as the tennis program grows.
- Communicate consistently with parents, coaches, and allied health professionals as needed for athlete development.
