Location: Tevis

The Class A Heavy Truck Mechanic performs skilled journeyperson-level work in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the Tevis truck fleet. This position is expected to work with minimal supervision, provide technical guidance to other mechanics, and ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer and safety standards.

$35-$40 per hour.

Requirements
  • At least 8-10 years of experience in commercial vehicle maintenance
  • General understanding of computer technology including Word, Excel, Outlook, and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • CDL driver’s license with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements – or willingness to acquire
  • Possess sufficient hand tools capable of performing the responsibilities in this job description
  • Regular and dependable attendance
  • Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule
  • Willingness to travel as necessary within the service area
  • Comply with random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 80 lbs.
  • Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling
  • Maintain 3-points of contact when entering/exiting a truck
  • Willingness/ability to work in non-climate-controlled conditions
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues using computerized diagnostic equipment and testing tools.
  • Perform comprehensive repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems (air and hydraulic), suspension, and steering systems.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and safety inspections on vehicles and equipment to ensure proper performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Perform emergency field assistance for disabled equipment as needed.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to perform repairs according to specifications.
  • Document all work performed, including parts used and hours worked, using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or other required software.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area, adhering to all federal, state, and local safety and hazardous waste disposal regulations (e.g., OSHA Right-to-Know).
  • Communicate with parts departments to order necessary components and ensure timely receipt.
  • May supervise apprentice technicians, providing guidance on repair procedures.
  • Operate a variety of shop equipment, including hydraulic lifts, welding equipment, jacks, and power tools, etc.
