The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership.
The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager Position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high level duties specific to that position, though the majority of duties are shared.

SalesGeneration and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service
- Answer questions regarding the store and merchandise
- Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs
- Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience
- Demonstrate product knowledge and sharing that knowledge with the Team
- Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices
- Contribute to Guest service across Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area
- Understand return and exchange procedures and turn them into positive guest experiences
- Use the SPG (Sales Presentation Guide) daily to accomplish goals
- Meet or exceed personal sales-per-hour, average sale and net sales goals
- Build client relationships to develop a personal business
- Lead by example with showmanship and high service standards
- Coordinate with leadership on Guest levels and business opportunities
- Support teammates with feedback and coaching to improve sales presentations
- Maintain high standards whether the Manager is present
- Plan sales goals with Store Manager
- Demonstrate ownership of store sales performance
- Recognize recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, referrals, and recommendations
- Coach and develop relationships to foster loyalty programs and guest preferences
- Lead, motivate, and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards daily
- Maintain a positive floor culture and dress code
- Participate in daily setup, training, performance tracking, and mid-week check-ins
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks
- Develop denim showmanship and fit card skills in Teammates and Guests
- Coordinate education focus with Store Manager and delegate tasks
- Execute department calendar actions and track progress
- Train on leadership playbook and SPG; manage training of non-sales positions
- Handle training needs with manager and adapt to changing focuses
- Memory and recognition of guest names
- Own and manage zone ownership and periodic learning goals for Teammates
- Execute new tools and videos related to zone ownership
- Delegate and review all four zones with Store Manager
- Maintain Visual Standards and Weekly Visual Checklist
- Identify merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations
- Provide store tours and ensure appropriate display of new freight
- Use Performance Tracker to drive store improvements
- Anticipate product changes and adjust visual results accordingly
- Maintain visual standards on floor and in backroom
- Work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday season requirements
