Position

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing nursing care, administering medications, and documenting care in the patient's medical record for a designated group of patients under the direction of the RN. Under the general supervision of the CNO, responsible for providing nursing care on assigned shift utilizing the nursing process and age-specific needs.

Some of the responsibilities include:
  • Performs specified patient care with a high degree of skill, minimal discomfort to the patient and minimal supervision
  • Administers medications, including IV therapy, to patients according to hospital policy; administers treatments, prepares for tests and surgery, and assists physicians with procedures and examinations
  • Ensures the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
  • Monitors and discontinues blood and blood products.

  • Receives and transcribes physicians' orders as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and continuing evaluation of the patient care plan.
  • Documents care in the patient's record.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, initiate CPR or appropriate action, and notifies appropriate personnel.
Facility

General Responsibilities:
  • Attend facility new hire orientation as scheduled by HR
  • Complete Department Orientation Initial Competency within 7 days of hire date
  • Complete Department Initial Skills Competency within 90 days of hire date
  • Follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures
  • Respect cultural and religious practices of patients from all backgrounds
  • Follow HIPAA regulations at all times
  • Be punctual and dependent for assigned shifts
  • Dress within the dress code requirements of the facility
  • Identifies all patients using at least two identifiers verbally (name and DOB), and by checking
  • Follows Hospital Wide and Department Specific policies and procedures
  • Must interact with physicians, guests, staff, and patients pleasantly, cooperatively, and effectively.
  • Must pass drug screens, both pre-employment and throughout duration of employment.
Position Requirements :
Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Certifications.

Completion of a vocational school LPN program and current licensure as an LPN as approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing for practice in the state of Tennessee. Responsible for Continuing Education Units annually. BLS and ACLS certifications must be obtained and kept current. Special certifications may be required at the department's discretion. Proficiency in pharmacology and documentation and the ability to demonstrate nursing skills according to current hospital and nursing policies and procedures as normally acquired through the successful completion of documentation class and skills exams.

Must have a minimum of 6 months experience as an LPN and must have attended a formal IV push medication training program prior to administering IV push medications.
