Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient-centered care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role coordinates and delivers high-quality care based on established clinical protocols and physician/provider orders, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care, desired outcomes, and a supportive environment for patients and families.
- Coordinate and deliver patient-centered care in accordance with organizational policies and nursing process.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, document findings accurately, and report changes in condition to the care team.
- Utilize knowledge of human growth and development for age-appropriate care and education.
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and document administration per standards of practice.
- Assist physicians during procedures within scope of competency.
- Collaborate with the team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Respond to medical emergencies and participate in code team activities such as CPR as appropriate.
- Advocate for patients’ rights and needs, ensuring voices are heard in planning and delivery.
- Provide patient and family education on conditions, treatment plans, and post‑discharge care.
- Implement infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
- Monitor and operate medical equipment (IV pumps, monitors, ventilators) as needed.
- Promote patient safety by adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and maintaining a clean environment.
- Participate in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks to ensure standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate responsible decision-making, delegating care based on patient needs and policies.
- Document patient care and education thoroughly and promptly in the medical record.
- Engage in professional development to maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current nursing standards.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
- Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards.
- Specialty areas:
- Oncology RN: Administer chemotherapy, manage side effects, monitor vitals, manage pain, explain treatments, and provide emotional support.
- Orthopedics RN: Provide specialized care for musculoskeletal conditions, pre‑operative and post‑operative care, conduct vascular assessments, manage immobilization devices, provide pain management, and educate patients.
- Telemetry RN: Use telemetry equipment, analyze data, provide cardiac-focused care, respond to emergencies, and implement interventions.
- 0–2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting required.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical nursing practices.
- Ability to perform thorough assessments and communicate findings effectively.
- Proficient in medication administration and monitoring side effects.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation.
- Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
- RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required.
- BCLS – Basic Life Support required.
- ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
- PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
- NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation preferred.
- Refer to facility or unit‑specific guidelines for additional requirements.
