At Fast Pace Health, Patient Care Specialist provides administrative support essential for effective patient care under the direct supervision of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. The Patient Care Specialist delivers outstanding customer service and maintains a compassionate and welcoming atmosphere. The role uses front office processes to include patient registration and insurance practices, as well as effective communication with patients and clinic staff.

A high level of customer focus is maintained at all times, especially during periods of high patient volume.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY:

  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service to greet, register, and discharge all patients
  • Ability to cross-train and assist with back-office duties as needed within scope of practice
  • Accurately collect and input patient demographics and financial information at the time of registration for all patients
  • Verifies and updates all patient insurance information at the time of registration
  • Maintains strong knowledge of medical insurance plans including co-pays, deductibles, and coverage limits
  • Stays up to date with changes to government and commercial insurance plans
  • Maintains a high-level understanding and knowledge of the Fast Pace Self-Pay program
  • Collects all insurance, co-pays or deductibles, or self-pay amounts at the time of registration of each patient
  • Answers the phone with a polite, patient-centered manner demonstrating a commitment to positive patient experiences through outstanding customer service
  • Maintains Fast Pace customer service levels and facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patient arrivals, noting delays, and communicating with patients and clinic staff appropriately
  • Retrieves, faxes, or mails medical records to primary care providers as needed and coordinates the medical records process for continuation of care
  • Willing to cross-train on back-office clinical skills to perform in a cross-functional role as needed
  • Completes all mandatory compliance training and consistently follows processes to maintain compliance standards
  • Maintains friendly, cordial relations with all clients and employees to foster a positive work atmosphere
  • Performs the physical, sensory, cognitive, and environmental requirements of the position as specified
  • Responsible for folding towels, cleaning tables, and assisting patients with exercise equipment
  • Welcome new employees on their first day, facilitate introductions to team members, clinic tours, and overview of clinic processes
  • Assist new employees with learning activities and required training
  • Support training through job shadowing, demonstrations, and coaching opportunities
  • Adhere to company standards of operations and core values of teamwork, communication, empowerment, quality of care, and friendliness
  • Promote and maintain a culture of confidentiality for employees, employers, patients, and the business
  • Demonstrates proficiency with basic PC skills including typing, mouse use, and basic software such as MS Outlook and Word
  • Maintain the overall cleanliness of the office to support the team and clinic environment
  • Keep the reception area clean and organized
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
