Summary:
The typical seasonal entry‑on‑duty period for the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is April‑October 2026, variable due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Positions are located in the Visitors Services Division.
- Collect appropriate fees at park entrance station, visitor center, campground, and other visitor contact stations following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Safeguard funds collected.
- Present informational talks, guided tours, and demonstrations following a prescribed outline to various audiences to inform or educate.
- Respond verbally to visitor inquiries for information, direction, and guidance.
- Provide direction to, information on, and orientation regarding services or activities of interest to the public.
- Serve as the front‑line representative to greet customers and answer questions.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Require participation in Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- May be required to operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties; must possess a valid State‑issued driver’s license and submit a photocopy annually.
- May be required to complete training and operate a four‑wheel‑drive vehicle.
- Government housing may be available.
- Required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards; uniform allowance provided.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
To qualify for this position at the GS‑0090‑03 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
- Experience:
At least six months of general work experience (public or private sector) that demonstrates ability to perform the position’s duties. Include hours per week worked. - Education:
Successful completion of at least one year of study above high school that included at least six semester hours in American history, science, and/or public speaking. Include transcripts. - Combination of education and experience as described above.
Volunteer
Experience:
Experience, including paid and unpaid work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations, may be credited toward qualifying experience.
ICTAP/CTAP Clearance:
Current surplus and former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Applicants must submit proof of eligibility and may lose eligibility by exceeding temporary appointment limits.
The work ranges from moderately sedentary to moderately strenuous. Duties involve standing for prolonged periods, walking, and occasional lifting of supplies.
Working ConditionsWork is performed indoors at the visitor center as well as in outdoor areas exposing you to extreme temperatures, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight.
