Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a Senior Roadway Estimator with heavy civil, highway, and roadway experience to support our operations in Charleston, TN. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, developing bid strategies, and coordinating all aspects of the bidding process.
Project Identification & Strategy- Research and evaluate prospective project opportunities.
- Develop comprehensive bid strategies aligned with company goals.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of project scopes, schedules, and constructability.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and detailed scope analyses.
- Perform earthwork and linear mass haul analysis including review of geotechnical information to determine if rock blasting is required.
- Review plans and specifications with strong technical competency, identifying potential overruns and underruns.
- Understand crew compositions, equipment needs, production rates, material requirements (including waste/yield), and subcontractor involvement.
- Analyze project budgets, bid results, and market conditions, including competitor workload.
- Obtain bid bonds and specialty insurance quotes as required.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from vendors, material suppliers, subcontractors, and DBE/SBE participants.
- Coordinate all scopes of work to ensure complete bid coverage.
- Prepare scope letters, clarifications, and schedules of values for quotes and private bid submissions.
- Complete electronic bid submissions (DOT, TVA Power Advocate) and paper bid packages in accordance with all requirements.
- Assist in subcontractor and supplier selection, including DBE/SBE participation.
- Complete required owner/DOT award documentation.
- Set up project budgets in Viewpoint and prepare subcontracts and major purchase orders.
- Transition all relevant information to the Project Team for seamless project startup.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of construction estimating experience, preferably in roadway, highway, or heavy civil projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, One Note, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid/Heavy Job, AutoCAD, and Viewpoint software is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to read, hear, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work long shifts with non-standard break times.
- Ability to work at heights up to 100 feet and in enclosed spaces.
- Ability to walk moderate distances (½ mile or more) on job sites.
- Ability to lift and move items over 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must wear required PPE, including a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
- Willingness to perform additional job‑related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
