Title
Student Success Advisor
Position SummaryThis position is responsible for tracking and assisting students by providing holistic services from pre‑enrollment to completion for a defined set of students with a primary goal of assisting them with overcoming barriers to their success in college.
Essential Job Functions /Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Build relationships with students to achieve their identified goals and objectives.
- Review student progress and track student use of academic support services.
- Assist students in identifying factors that contribute to lack of academic progress, help students examine alternatives, and apply appropriate retention strategies to support students’ efforts.
- Strategize with faculty and other college staff as needed to improve support student success.
- Maintain accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs.
- Support annual recruitment of new students.
- Create and conduct training sessions/workshops for students, faculty and staff.
- Assist with developing and implementing a variety of institutional retention activities.
- Participate in new student orientation and first‑year experience activities.
- Utilize an SIS student records system and be able to function within a computerized office environment.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Two years’ experience delivering direct support/services to students in a higher education setting with a wide‑ranging student body.
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Arabic or Spanish.
- Prior work experience at a community college.
- Prior academic advising or student success coaching experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to manage a caseload system of advising.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage competing tasks and priorities while maintaining complete and accurate records.
- Proficient Microsoft Office and database management skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels across the organization.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a varied community.
