Schedule: 15 hours a week during the spring, summer, and fall academic semesters
Job Summary: Reporting to the Dean of Humanities, the Writing Center Advanced Tutor is responsible for tutoring students on an appointment and walk‑in basis. The Advanced Tutor is also responsible for general office administration of the Writing Center that may include schedule and calendar maintenance, training of work‑study students, and general on‑campus marketing.
- Conduct one‑on‑one tutoring sessions.
- Assist students with building their writing skills.
- Schedule tutoring appointments as requested.
- Answer phone and email inquiries from students and faculty regarding the Writing Center.
- Assist the Writing Center Administrator with maintaining office records, scheduling, internal marketing, promotion, and outreach.
- Conduct writing workshops for classes as requested.
- Maintain budget records for the Writing Center.
- Participate in training.
- Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching or tutoring English.
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Two or more years of experience teaching English.
- Conversational ability or fluency in a second language.
- Technology skills
Customer support: MS Office Suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems;
Adobe software. - Capable of maintaining empathy, positivity, patience, and professionalism.
