The purpose of this role is to support student achievement and to assist students in making social, educational, and occupational decisions that will aid their lifelong development as mature and responsible citizens.
Snow Hill Elementary School is a PreK–5 school located in Ooltewah, TN, just outside of Chattanooga. We are the foundation of a proud community that offers a small‑town family‑centered atmosphere supported by the resources of a large school district. - Maintain appropriate licensure and provide required documentation to validate licensure in a timely manner.
- Review a variety of student assessment data to ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement.
- Coordinate and administer standardized testing in accordance with district policies and state law.
- Implement district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws as appropriate.
- Discover and develop special abilities of students, with a long‑term goal of high school graduation.
- Register new students and orient them to school procedures and learning opportunities.
- Counsel students individually or in small groups to develop resolution and coping skills for personal problems related to school, home, health, and emotional issues that may impact academic achievement and attendance.
- Plan student field trips as appropriate.
- Confidentially manage and transfer accurate health, attendance, progress, and transcript records for assigned students.
- Make recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships; assist students in college and employment application preparation.
- Confere with parents regularly as appropriate.
- Communicate the role of the school counselor and available services to students, parents, and community.
- Assist students in evaluating aptitudes and abilities through standardized test scores and other data, and work with them in evolving educational and occupational plans.
- Advise and assist students in course and subject selection.
- Ensure assigned areas are safe following established procedures.
- Work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
- Attend work and arrive on time.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Adhere to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
- Perform related duties, such as sponsoring or supervising student organizations or activities.
- Comply with accounting and financial policies and procedures involving handling of money and property.
- Use computers and other technology to enter and access essential job information.
- Perform general and clerical tasks, including answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, and processing mail.
- Operate a motor vehicle for work activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in School Counseling and a valid Tennessee School Service Personnel License for School Counseling pre‑K‑12 are required.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
- Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and time‑management skills.
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience. This position may be eligible for an increase in total compensation.
