Wood Mackenzie is looking for a Research Analyst to join the team in Louisville, Kentucky as part of our Commodity Trading Data Analytics Midstream team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain and support the ongoing quality of our Oil Transportation products, covering crude oil pipelines and crude-by-rail terminals in North America and Europe.
  • Develop expertise in pipeline flow modeling and remote sensing networks, applying advanced analytics and statistical methods to optimize operational processes.
  • Improve oil offerings while ensuring data integrity through collaboration with team members.
  • Research and organize technical documentation, such as permits, media articles, regulations, and company records, on regional pipelines and related infrastructure.
  • Build a strong understanding of market dynamics, such as crude oil flows from production regions downstream, and share insights with the team.
  • Design and enhance analytical tools and procedures to support continuous improvement of our modeling and sensing capabilities.
  • Collaborate with fellow analysts to provide consistent and reliable reporting and analysis of operational events, while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.

  • Ability to synthesize and analyze data from diverse sources quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong quantitative skills with experience in research, process management, or statistics.
  • Strong teamwork skills, eye for detail, and creativity in finding alternative solutions.
  • Effective time management to execute in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity about what drives markets based on economicli>
  • Experience with Python or R required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and at least one database querying language (SQL, Cypher, etc.).
  • Effective communicator with clients and internal stakeholders.
Other Experiences You Would Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Math, or Economics (preferred).
  • Experience working in a technical role.
  • Strong quantitative and statistical analytic capabilities from professional or academic experiences.
  • Passion for commodity markets and the global oil supply chain.
  • Enjoyment of data storytelling.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, generating ideas to share and driving productivity.
  • Desire to develop an in‑depth understanding of the energy sector.

The salary range for this position is $85,000–$95,000 per year, representing base pay only and does not include short‑term incentive compensation or commission. Base pay is determined by location, experience, qualifications, and training.

This position does not provide visa sponsorship.
