The Processing Archivist for the Newcomb Archives and Vorhoff Collection assists with overseeing the storage, intellectual organization, and long‑term preservation and access of collections, including born digital and digitized materials. They work with members of the Newcomb Institute research team to plan and implement archival processing projects including actively maintaining and improving already processed materials. The Processing Archivist appraises, arranges, describes, preserves, and provides access to archival collections of varying sizes and formats, including paper‑based media, audiovisual, digital archives, and graphic and photographic materials.
The Processing Archivist will adhere to locally documented archival standards and best practices to create DACS‑compliant finding aids using the archival content management system Archives Space. They process new and legacy collections and supervise processing projects done by student workers. They contribute to creating and documenting policies, procedures, and workflows that are user‑centered and transparent and that facilitate efficient arrangement, description, and access to collections.
They will be active in improving access to collections by creating inventories, shelf lists and transportation schedules for collections stored in offsite storage locations. The Processing Archivist will collaborate with Newcomb Institute staff to promote and improve the visibility, access, and use of Newcomb Archives collections.
