Job introduction

We are looking for a Team Leader – Daysaism to join our team at Shearwater, leading a team of care staff. This is a part‑time role.

Your new role

Shearwater is in the Milton area of Portsmouth and is a purpose‑built 40‑bed dementia residential home, which opened in August 2009. The accommodation is spread over 2 floors in units of 20 per floor. All bedrooms have a private ensuite with a shower.

We currently have around 100 staff working different roles and different shifts throughout the home.

You will lead a team of up to six care staff, Monday – Sunday according to your rota, in the provision of a needs‑led service for adults with dementia. You will work with another band 7 Team Leader – days and have responsibility for the building and the service at times.

You will lead a shift to ensure staff are deployed where and when required for best service delivery. You will contribute to the promotion of independence through person‑centred care planning. Your role will involve some direct hands‑on care. You will be responsible for the development of allocated members of the junior team and liaising with health colleagues and other involved professionals as and when required.

Who

is the person summary:

As a Team Leader, you will be able to lead a team of up to 5‑6 staff per floor in the provision of a need‑led service. With previous senior carer experience you will have a NVQ/QCF Level 3 in adult social care or already be working towards level 3. You will beстэр responsible for meeting the night needs of up to 20 service users and be able to carry out tasks to support the band 9 assistant manager and junior team to ensure a safe and well‑led service.

Medication trained you will be able to deliver safe administration of medication for service users and be able to lead a shift to ensure staff are deployed where and when required. You will contribute to the promotion of independence through person‑centred care planning whilst being willing to deliver some direct hands‑on care to support the service users and the team.

With a calmನಾ approach to problem solving in any emergency you will be able to develop and maintain good relationships with service users and staff. You will report to the Band 9 of any concerns including accidents or incidents following your initial fact‑finding and recording so any investigations/actions can be addressed by the Band 9 as appropriate. Out of hours, you will need to demonstrate you can be responsible for the safety of the service including the building.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for this role.

Your rota will be: Week one:
Tues/Wed/Thurs/Sat/Sun 07:00 – 14:30 (7‑hour shift). Week two:
Wed/Thurs/Frid/Sat 14:00 – 22:00 (7.5‑hour shifts). All shifts include a 30‑minute unpaid break. Rota includes working weekends and bank holidays.
