Responsibilities
  • Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys in long‑term care facilities to determine compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Write detailed inspection or survey reports documenting deficiencies, remedies, and narrative to support regulatory determinations.
  • Communicate clearly with facility staff to provide findings, conduct exit conferences, and verify correctiof previously cited violations.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others.
  • Occasionally testify at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy, procedures, and findings.
  • Be available for on‑call duties for emergencies such as weather events or high‑priority situations.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of acceptable professional standards of patient care.
  • Skilled in conducting investigations to verify compliance.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to multi‑task and track multiple activities with competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use the computer for writing reports.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and reach sound decisions.
  • Ability to integrate complex regulatory concepts, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to operate personal computers and software.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications
  • Must have Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) Certification or obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Current nurse, social worker, respiratory therapist or dietician license or registration is preferred.
Initial Screening Criteria
  • Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university. Investigative experience or long‑term care experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis up to four years.
Experience
  • Regulatory services experience preferred.
  • Experience writing detailed reports.
  • Experience operating personal computers and software.
  • Experience conducting investigations preferred.
Additional Information
  • Flexibility in work hours and orientation to 80% travel, including statewide travel, overnight, and weekend travel.
  • On‑call duties for emergencies or high‑priority situations may be required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • All applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check.
