Shift: Full‑Time – 12‑hour, 3 shifts per week
Department: Long‑Term Acute Care / ICU
Patient Ratio: ICU 2‑3:1;
Med‑Surg 4‑5:1 with non‑licensed support and unit clerk
Average Length of Stay: 25 days

Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates patient care delivery in the Long‑Term Acute Care/ICU setting. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, identifies diagnoses, develops and implements individualized plans, and evaluates responses. The RN promotes safe patient passage by managing needs, preventing complications, and delegating interventions in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
Essential FunctionsClinical Judgment: Conducts accurate assessments, prioritizes needs, develops and evaluates the nursing plan, and modifies the plan to meet outcomes.
Clinical Inquiry: Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice; supports evidence‑based practice changes through research and learning; participates in quality improvement initiatives.
Caring Practices: Creates a compassionate, supportive, safe and therapeutic environment; manages emotional and physical pain; promotes comfort and healing.
Response to Diversity: Incorporates patient and family cultural, spiritual, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, socioeconomic status and values into care plans.
Advocacy and Moral Agency: Protects confidentiality and autonomy; represents concerns; resolves ethical and clinical conflicts.
Facilitation of Learning: Educates patients, families, staff and community; integrates education throughout care to enable informed decisions.
Collaboration: Works with colleagues and community to implement integrated care plans; delegates tasks to appropriate staff and follows up.
Systems Thinking: Uses problem‑solving strategies and available resources; considers safety, effectiveness and efficiency in planning and delivering care.
Professionalism: Participates in shared governance; commits to ongoing professional growth; provides community service.
Key Success Factors- Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards, laws, regulations, and protocols.
- Proficiency in medical terminology; understanding of medication, dosages and adverse reactions.
- Understanding of nursing ethics, patient privacy rights and effective communication.
- Interpersonal skills and critical thinking to manage patient condition changes.
- Ability to deliver age‑specific, patient‑centered care using the nursing process.
- Computer skills:
Microsoft Office, EMR, scheduling and payroll systems.
