Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital is a 636‑bed Level 1 Trauma Center between Dallas and Austin.

Shift
: PRN Night shift 7p–7a.

The Registered Nurse (RN) Float is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery in the ICU Float Pool. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements individualized plans of care, evaluates patient responses, and delegates interventions in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act.

Essential Functions
  • Clinical Judgment:
    Uses clinical reasoning to conduct accurate assessments, identify and prioritize patient and family needs, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing plans of care, and modify plans to meet clinical outcomes.
  • Clinical Inquiry:
    Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supports evidence‑based practice changes, and participates in quality/performance improvement initiatives.
  • Caring Practices:
    Creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff; manages emotional and physical pain.
  • Response to Diversity:
    Recognizes, appreciates, and incorporates a patient’s and family’s unique differences into individualized care plans.
  • Advocacy and Moral Agency:
    Preserves confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights; represents patient and family concerns; resolves ethical and clinical issues.

    Facilitates learning for patients, families, staff, and the community; integrates education throughout the continuum of care.

    Works collaboratively with colleagues and community to develop and implement integrated care plans and delegates tasks appropriately.

Key Success Factors
  • Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and hospital/unit protocols governing nursing care.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology; principles of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention, and medication pharmacology.
  • Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.

  • Interpersonal skills across a wide range of constituencies.

  • Ability to observe changes in patient condition and communicate changes to nursing staff and physicians.
  • Ability to provide age‑specific, quality, patient‑centered care, evaluate and modify care plans as needed.
  • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Graduate of an Accredited RN Program.
  • Experience:

    2 Years of RN ICU Experience.
  • Certification/License/Registration:
    Registered Nurse (RN);
    Basic Life Support (BLS) (or within 30 days of hire).
