Coating Plate RefinisherInspects plates prior to coating to ensure they meet specifications as required per finish. Mount and wash acceptable plates for coating. Cleans and maintains equipment and parts necessary to produce quality plates. Will require certification to wear a Full face respirator. Operators will wear a full face respirator/chemical suit when exposed to chemicals. Operators will remove Hard Coating (Tib2) from press plates using chemical stripping method so plates can be repaired for production.
Performs other tasks as required.
- An understanding of all parts of Plate Coater/supporting equipment and how they work: computers, plate transport, washing system, load lock and process chamber
- Prepare plates for coating such as racking, washing, repairing and inspecting.
- Clean coating chamber as well as the coating operation.
- Perform mechanical maintenance as needed to support the coating equipment.
- Organizing/sorting plates for plate coating and plate stripping process
- Performs basic jobs that support the plate coating process.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical or electrical breakdown within company policies.
- Use hand repair methods to repair HD (acid etched plates) on a daily basis.
- Keep daily logs that support the Coating Operation.
- Understands the importance of cleanliness as required by process.
- Process control/operation of chemical removal of coating from press plates.
- Maintain raw chemical and waste storage for process to comply with safety and environmental regulations.
- Assist environmental services with waste and empty drum removal from site.
- Schedules return of press plates to plate plant.
- Keep accurate paperwork/records of process.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment
- Ability to read a tape measure.
- Ability to follow written procedures.
- Skill in a mechanical background to work on equipment.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to identify plate finishes.
- Knowledge of computers sufficient to utilize databases and spreadsheets.
- Ability to take steps as required ensuring process is operational.
- Ability to perform lab tests as required.
- Must be able to make sound decisions independently when management is not available.
- General knowledge for trouble shooting and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of quality standards.
- Ability to work with highly concentrated/corrosive chemicals (strong acids and bases), these include but not limited to 50% NaOH (caustic soda), 34%-50% Hydrogen Peroxide, 75%-85% Phosphoric Acid.
Education:
- High School Graduate or GED
- High school diploma or GED, plus thirty semester hours of college with a concentration in a closely related field.
Experience:
- 1+ years
- One additional year of experience may substitute for the required education, plus two year of equivalent experience working in the Plate Facility.
Physical Requirements:
Continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking/pushing/climbing and lifting material or equipment of heavy weight (>50 lbs). Examples: grounds staff and EMS

Located in an environment with regular exposure to fumes or odors, temperature extremes, or loud noises which cause noticeable discomfort or moderate risk of accident or illness. Examples: engineering, waste mgt, laundry workers and yards/grounds staf
