Position SummaryThe Production Technician operates and monitors highly automated manufacturing equipment, including Vacuum Induction Melt (VIM) furnaces and automated finishing cells, to produce high-quality metal powders and ingots. This role follows established standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and quality systems while working closely with cross-functional teams to meet daily production, yield, and delivery targets. Safety, attention to detail, and teamwork are critical to success in this position.
Key Responsibilities- Follow all safety rules, wear required PPE, maintain housekeeping standards, and actively identify safety improvement opportunities.
- Operate production equipment in accordance with written SOPs and supervisory instructions under aerospace quality requirements.
- Support melting operations by preparing raw materials, staging tools, and assisting with equipment setup and shutdown.
- Monitor process indicators and elevate abnormalities or deviations to leadership.
- Perform mold preparation, post-run cleanup, and basic inspections under supervision.
- Operate finishing and post-processing equipment such as sieves, blenders, abrasive saws, and grinders.
- Handle, label, and package materials according to work instructions and quality standards.
- Perform basic visual inspections and assist with quality sampling activities.
- Accurately complete production records, checklists, and electronic system entries.
- Participate in shift handoffs, training activities, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Strong safety-first mindset and willingness to work in required PPE (respirators, heat-resistant gear, FR garments, etc.).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and follow SOPs, work instructions, and production documentation.
- Basic computer skills for MES/ERP entries, barcode scanning, and electronic logs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in high-temperature and industrial environments.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
- 2+ years of experience in metal manufacturing or a related industrial environment.
- Experience with induction melting or post-processing equipment.
- Familiarity with powder handling, sieving, and particle size classification.
- General knowledge of aerospace quality systems such as AS9100.
- Forklift certification, overhead crane operation, rigging skills, or exposure to production robotics.
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work near high-temperature equipment, molten metal, rotating machinery, noise, and fine particulates (with controls).
- Comfortable working in hot, noisy, or potentially hazardous environments while wearing PPE.
