STGi is currently seeking a Cook to provide services at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home. The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation s veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families.

To support the effective operation of the community’s kitchen systems and to ensure the quality of the meals for the residents.

• Handle and prepare food in a sanitary manner.
• Prepare food which is palatable and appetizing in appearance.
• Follow oral and written directions.
• Understand and be able to prepare therapeutic diets.
• Attend in-service training programs for food service team members.
• Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
• Come to work in neat, clean attire and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
• Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
• Consistently work cooperatively with residents, residents’ representatives, community staff, physicians, consultants and ancillary service providers.
• Adhere to break, meal and clock in/out procedures.
• Food is prepared by following menu and recipes and will appear appetizing.
• Prepare in advance to ensure food items are ready in a timely manner.
• Date items prior to placing them in the refrigerator, freezer or storage.
• Document and/or ensure food, refrigerator and freezer maintain sanitizing temperatures.
• Document meal substitutions.
• Effectively oversee tasks of Dietary Aide/Dishwasher/Prep Cook.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain Food Handlers Certification.
• At least one year prior experience in food preparation in long term care preferred.

The physical demands and work environment described herein is a representative of those that generally must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

• This position primarily involves standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending/stooping, pushing and pulling (typical weight of 15 lbs. and maximum weight of 75 lbs., approximately), and lifting (minimum weight of 15 lbs. and maximum weight of 100 lbs., approximately).
• The position requires repetitive finger movements as well as hearing and talking on the phone and in person.
• Must be able to continuously deal effectively with stress created by residents, multiple tasks, noises, interruptions, and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant attitude.
