Job Profile Summary
Serves as a certified trades worker in an area of specialty to ensure proper installation, modification, and repair of related systems.
Job DescriptionFacilities Management, Downtown Phoenix campus, seeks General Maintenance Mechanics with maintenance backgrounds in institutional, commercial/industrial settings to perform general maintenance of university buildings. The position is based at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus but may require work at other ASU campus locations based on program need.
Essential Duties- Electrical maintenance duties for 120 and 277 volts: maintenance and repair of lighting, ballasts, switches, receptacles, sockets, and diffusers. Perform electrical troubleshooting using multi‑meters, volt detectors, and circuit tracers.
- Plumbing repair and maintenance of public restrooms, labs, kitchens, etc.; maintain and rebuild water closet flushometers, urinal flushometers, and various faucet types; clear drain clogs and stoppages; maintain restroom partitions and replace related hardware.
- Carpentry maintenance: maintain and adjust auto door closers; perform preventive maintenance and replacement of door hardware (flush bolts, handles, kick plates, door strikes, hinges, closers, weather stripping, smoke seals, door sweeps); repair and replace diverse flooring; maintain and replace suspended ceiling systems and tiles; perform small drywall repairs and paint touch‑ups.
- First response to elevator trouble calls and basic troubleshooting of elevator door problems.
- Utilize electronic work order systems (TMA) to respond to maintenance requests.
- Use various hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Maintain daily logs/records with computers/tablets.
- Interact effectively with customers and students of diverse backgrounds.
- Work within a team environment and contribute to team goals.
- Two years general maintenance and repair experience or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
- Experience working in hospitals, schools, large manufacturing, or commercial/industrial facilities.
- Experience in electrical maintenance and repair of such facilities, specifically 120/277 V systems.
- Experience in plumbing maintenance and repair of such facilities.
- Experience in carpentry maintenance and repair of such facilities.
- Experience using electronic work order systems (TMA).
- Evidence of effective communication skills to perform essential functions.
- Drive university vehicles.
- Maintain written daily logs/records.
- Use specific hand tools and equipment related to essential duties.
- Carry up to 100 pounds.
- Stand, lift, bend, stoop, kneel to work under sink.
- Work off ladders, scaffolding, or single‑man lifts up to 40 feet.
- Wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator).
- Work with team members, prioritize assignments, work within guidelines.
- Push or pull approximately 200‑300 pound maintenance carts to transport tools throughout campus.
- Potential exposure to asbestos.
Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am‑4:00 pm. Position may require rotating on‑call/stand‑by scheduling and emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Salary Range$21.49 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the state of Arizona.
