- The 3D Model Finisher is responsible for cleaning, finishing, and inspecting 3D printed plastic prototypes in a laboratory environment.
- This role involves detailed hand-finishing work to ensure dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
- The position requires strong attention to detail, comfort with hands-on and sometimes messy work, and the ability to adapt to evolving 3D printing and post-processing techniques.
- Clean 3D printed models according to standard operating procedures.
- Hand finish models using defined techniques while maintaining feature geometry and tolerances.
- Use precision measurement tools such as digital calipers and optical measurement systems to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Operate 3D printing equipment as needed, including routine and rotational maintenance.
- Maintain finishing supplies and laboratory organization.
- Evaluate new supplies, techniques, and equipment to improve model finishing quality.
- Perform all work in accordance with standard operating procedures and Good Laboratory Practices.
- Follow all safety and quality standards and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Contribute to research and development activities related to 3D printing and prototyping under management direction.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods while performing finishing tasks.
- Comfortable handling chemicals such as isopropyl alcohol while following safety protocols.
- Willingness to perform hands-on, occasionally messy work including sanding, dyeing, and painting.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify model defects.
- Self-starter with a proactive approach to work and task ownership.
- Experience with model finishing or machining preferred.
- Experience with 3D printing technologies such as SLA, DLP, Poly Jet, or FFF is a strong plus.
- Experience working in laboratory or production environments preferred.
- Precision hand-finishing and craftsmanship skills.
- Basic understanding of measurement and tolerance verification.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and techniques.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
