Senior Machinist is a journeyman prototype machinist.

Senior Machinist is a machinist who is highly proficient in CNC mills or lathes. Skill level exceeds that of the Machinist II. Can do process engineering and CNC programming of the most complex work pieces without any instructions. Must be able to do complex problem solving of machined parts and set ups.

• Own basic hand tools required for machinist trade.
• Program, set up, and operate CNC mill, lathe, and basic shop powered tools.
• Read drawings, follow verbal instructions, and apply basic mathematical skills to complete required tasks.
• Inspect own work using standard measuring tools such as calipers, micrometer, and pin gages.
• Maintain a current status in field of expertise through continuing education and applicable trade shows.
• Work with Solid Works solid models to create control programs for machines.
• Process engineering of machined parts.

• 5-10 years’ experience in machining and CAM programming.
• Ability to program, set up and operate CNC mills and lathes.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings with GD&T per ASME 14.5.
• Knowledge of various metals, plastics, machine shop operations.
• Effective time management.
• Excellent communication skills.

• Mastercam and Solid Works experience.

• Trade school certification or equivalent experience is desired, but not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use sight, and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, controls, and office equipment. The employee frequently is required to verbally communicate with other associates. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch.
