Job Description About the Supervisor, Hospital Engagement & Strategy

The Supervisor, Hospital Engagement & Strategy is responsible for contributing to leadership of Hospital Engagement & Strategy staff in efforts to maximize donation and achieve organizational, departmental, team and individual goals.

In addition, this position will have hospital assignments and will be responsible for maximizing the total number of donors recovered for transplant in Arizona through the implementation of a development and education process at assigned hospitals. This position works collaboratively with the medical, nursing, and other departments as necessary in the planning, design and maintenance of educational and quality assurance programs related to donation.

In addition, the Supervisor will be responsible for special projects as they relate to Hospital Engagement & Strategy which may include program design, newsletter contribution, etc.

Responsibilities are to be conducted in a fashion that reflects DNA’s comprehensive/full-service approach to donation with attention to priority management based upon donor potential.

Supervises Hospital Engagement & Strategy staff
  • Coordinates the orientation, training, and ongoing mentoring of new staff for the team.
  • Performance evaluations; includes onsite observation of educational presentations, demonstration of implementation of customized marketing plans in hospitals, feedback from customers, and assessment of DNA’s core values.
  • Development, implementation, and evaluation of the team’s strategic plans.
  • Reviews individual team member quarterly plans designed to meet broader strategic goals and objectives.
  • Ensures that team members meet prescribed timelines for reporting and Hospital Engagement & Strategy activities including, but not limited to:
    • Strategic Plans
    • Case Reviews
    • Variance Follow Up
System Management: creates a positive environment for donation within the assigned hospitals
  • Identifies formal and informal leaders, assesses their respective roles, degree of influence and needs.
  • Facilitates a consistent process for organ, tissue, and eye donation by formulating systems that measure potential donor outcomes against mutually defined goals.
  • Participates in decision‑making programs and committees in the hospital that have an influence on organ and tissue donation, promoting donation and seeking opportunities for further collaboration.
Provides proactive support for organ, tissue, and eye donation at assigned hospitals, to include the integration of the following identified best practices for organ donation
  • Clinical triggers for organ donation referral. Ensures that hospital receives ongoing education on these triggers.
  • Implements team huddles as a part of every potential organ donation prior to approaching the family.
  • Conducts case debriefs after every potential organ donation.
  • Functions as an expert resource within the hospital on all aspects of organ and tissue donation.
  • Collects and reports donation outcome data to various levels of clinical and administrative hospital staff.
  • Maintains high visibility within the hospital through participation in committees and other hospital specific programs and by conducting rounds in designated areas of "A" hospitals at minimum three times per week.
  • Develops, provides, and evaluates in‑house training and in‑service educational programs on all aspects of the donation process for hospital staff.
  • Identifies, documents, and resolves issues related to organ, tissue, and eye donation.
  • Facilitates staff participation with organ, tissue, and eye donors.
  • Maintains relationships and communication between hospital departments.
  • Creates an active network of formal and informal “donation champions” in designated hospital(s) and community.
