Position

As a Core Laboratory Technologist with a focus in hematology, you will serve as a generalist across hematology, chemistry, and coagulation testing. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced clinical environment. You will rotate across multiple areas of the Core Laboratory while applying a strong hematology background to support critical patient testing.

Responsibilities include preparing and staining slides, performing manual differentials, reporting results in compliance with CLIA and CAP standards, and providing coverage across chemistry and coagulation as needed.

Schedule

Full-time, onsite in Tempe, Arizona. This role will likely be assigned to one of the following shifts and requires flexibility to cover department needs:

  • Day shift: 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m
  • Swing shift: 12:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m

W2 hourly Team Members receive an 8% shift differential for hours worked between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., as well as for all hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays.

Responsibilities
  • Perform high-complexity testing as a generalist across hematology, chemistry, and coagulation
  • Apply a strong hematology background to prepare, stain, and evaluate peripheral blood smears and other slide-based specimens
  • Perform manual differentials and identify cell types with precision
  • Operate and maintain core laboratory analyzers, including hematology, chemistry, and coagulation platforms
  • Maintain quality control records and participate in proficiency testing programs
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and OSHA standards across all core laboratory areas
  • Participate in validation of new methods and instrumentation
  • Rotate across core laboratory sections to provide coverage and support daily workflow
  • Provide guidance and training support to new staff or students as needed
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety procedures, including safe handling of biohazards
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Education and Certification

Education (must meet one of the following CLIA requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science field that qualifies under CLIA for high-complexity testing OR
  • Associate’s degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, including at least 60 semester hours of science (with coursework in biology and chemistry), plus relevant clinical training/experience that qualifies under CLIA OR
  • Certification such as ASCP (MLS/CLS or MLT), AMT, or equivalent, or eligibility with commitment to obtain within 6 months of hire

Required Qualifications:

  • Meets CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing
  • At least 2 years of hematology laboratory experience
  • Strong skills in slide preparation, staining, and manual differential analysis
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hematology experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Experience with Sysmex XN-530 hematology analyzer
  • Familiarity with ACL Elite coagulation testing
  • Familiarity with Abbott Alinity ci chemistry platform
  • Experience participating in CAP inspections, audits, or quality improvement projects
  • Cross-disciplinary experience in chemistry or coagulation testing
  • Experience mentoring or training new laboratory personnel
Compensation and Benefits

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $24-29 per hour (commensurate with experience)
