Insurtech seeking an Associate Director to lead income tax compliance activities, including GAAP and Statutory tax provisions, federal, state, and local tax filings, and tax planning initiatives.
This position is based in Tempe, AZ. Will consider NYC based, Dallas and Atlanta.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the annual and quarterly GAAP and Statutory income tax provision processes, including coordination with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
Review U.S. federal, state, and local income tax returns and estimates for corporate holding companies and insurance subsidiaries.
Manage relationships with external tax advisors supporting compliance and provision activities.
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of tax accounting and compliance outputs through effective use of technology and process controls, partnering with finance transformation and external vendors as needed.
Manage responses to tax audits and notices, including related correspondence and documentation.
Oversee indirect tax compliance requirements.
Lead preparation of financial data, analysis, and modeling to support tax forecasting, planning, and special projects.
Partner cross-functionally with Finance and business teams to address tax issues and support organizational objectives.
Monitor and communicate developments in insurance tax regulations and assess potential impacts to the organization.
Support the development and implementation of tax strategies and planning opportunities.
Drive automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency, compliance, and analytical insight.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.
Strong working knowledge of U.S. tax code and regulations.
Deep understanding of ASC 740 income tax accounting.
Minimum of 3 years of experience leading or managing teams.
CPA and/or Master's degree in Taxation.
Experience with
Statutory Accounting Principles
, including SSAP 101.Knowledge of U.S. insurance company taxation.
Experience implementing or working with tax provision software.
Ability to work with large datasets, build models, and leverage data tools for analysis.
Experience with state tax nexus considerations.
