The Senior Grants Accountant plays a key role in the Controller's Office at Maricopa Community Colleges, overseeing the accounting and compliance of restricted funding. This position ensures grant dollars are managed responsibly by applying a strong understanding of state, local, and federal regulations and by guiding College and District staff in proper fund allocation and usage.
As a lead advisor, the Senior Grants Accountant provides support across multiple accounting areas, including purchasing, payroll, capital assets, general accounting, treasury, and accounts payable, to maintain accuracy and compliance throughout the grant lifecycle. The position also involves preparing audit documentation and collaborating with external partners to develop complex financial reports, thereby contributing to the District's commitment to accountability, transparency, and effective stewardship of public funds.
EssentialFunctions
25% – Manages post-award activity, including account creation; regulatory and compliance monitoring:
- Payroll cost allocations and effort reporting; grant projections and cost transfers
- Reconciles grant activity in line with published monthly, quarterly, and annual period close processes
- Researches and interprets compliance issues for state and federal grant programs
25% – Provides analytical and fiscal support for activities related to restricted funds:
- Allocates, authorizes, monitors, and controls expenses consistent with award funding.
